If you register your yacht under the San Marino flag, you will usually also need a Ship Radio Station License and an MMSI number.
This license allows your onboard radio and safety equipment to legally operate worldwide and ensures your vessel can be identified by coastguards, marinas, and emergency services.
IMPORTANT: We include a free MMSI license for all registrations from 10 meters length!
Boats under 10 meters are not obliged to have an MMSI license, but may apply for one anyway through us. The MMSI fee when you register through us is €200, or €300 as a standalone service.
What is an MMSI Number?
MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) is a unique 9-digit identification number assigned to your vessel.
It is used by:
- VHF/DSC radios
- AIS transponders
- EPIRBs
- Satellite tracking devices
- Coastguard rescue systems
Think of it like a telephone number for your boat.
When you press the distress button or transmit digitally, authorities instantly see:
- Your vessel name
- Flag state (San Marino)
- Owner details
- Emergency contacts
- Boat type and size
This dramatically improves safety and response time at sea.
Is an MMSI Mandatory?
In most cases, yes.
If your yacht has any of the following equipment, you legally need a radio license and MMSI:
- Fixed VHF radio
- DSC radio

- EPIRB
- MF/HF radio
- Satellite communications
For almost all modern yachts, this means an MMSI is required.
What is the San Marino Ship Radio Station License?
The Ship Radio Station License is the official government document that:
